Compress an Image to 200KB

This page uses the same browser compressor as the homepage, with the 200KB target already selected. It tries to bring each JPG, PNG, or WebP file to 204,800 bytes or smaller. The result shows the real file size and an accurate target status. Reaching 200KB is a goal, not a guarantee.

Low starts at 90%, Balanced at 75%, and High at 50%. These are encoder settings, not guaranteed file-size reductions.

Output format

Each image keeps its current format. You can choose JPG, PNG, or WebP when you want to convert.

Target size is on, so this slider and the presets do not control the final file. The compressor picks the highest quality that fits the target. Turn target size off to use this slider again.

Target File Size
Target file size

Try to compress the image to this size or smaller. Sizes use 1 KB = 1,024 bytes, the same as the other file sizes here.

Resize Image (Optional)

Change your image dimensions before compression. Keep the original size or enter custom dimensions.

Select an image to set its size. Resizing stays off until you enable it.

Add an image, then compress it.

How to compress toward 200KB

200KB is a file-size budget, not a pixel size. Compress the image, then read the real file size and the target status.

  1. 1

Add a JPG, PNG, or WebP image. Each file can be up to 20 MB. A wide photo and a small screenshot can spend this budget very differently.

  2. 2

Leave the 200 KB target selected. That is 204,800 bytes, because 1 KB is 1,024 bytes. Open Advanced Settings if you need another size.

  3. 3

Leave resizing off when the pixel dimensions must stay the same. The search tries quality first and keeps the format you selected.

  4. 4

Compress the image. The card shows the compressed size, the 200 KB target, and either Target Achieved or Target Not Achieved.

  5. 5

Target Achieved means the file is at or below 204,800 bytes. Target Not Achieved means the shown size is still larger. Do not treat that file as if it met the limit.

  6. 6

If the target is missed, turn on Allow resizing to reach target size or choose JPG or WebP yourself, then compress again. The tool does not change the format for you.

The general compressor on the homepage still starts with target size off. For 51,200 bytes, compress an image toward 50KB. For a tighter 102,400-byte budget, compress an image toward 100KB. The guide to reducing an image to 100KB or 200KB explains why some pictures miss either number.

Questions about the 200KB target

What the 200KB target measures, how to read the real file size, and what to try when a file stays larger.

No. The compressor keeps the highest quality it tried that is at or below 200KB, which is 204,800 bytes. If nothing fits, the status is Target Not Achieved and the card shows the real size, which can still be larger. Reaching 200KB is a goal, not a guarantee.
